Neopol Savory Smokery - Smoked seafood, cheese, poultry, game and cheese pies.
Neopol owner Barbara Lahnstein's foray into the world of smoked delicacies began when she was a young child living in Germany. After watching a group of Scandinavians prepare smoked herring during a family vacation, she was hooked. A constant presence at farmers' markets throughout the Baltimore area, Barbara stocks Neopol with smoked seafood, cheeses, poultry, game and of course, her legendary savory cheese pies. Using all natural, primarily locally grown ingredients smoked in high-quality woods, Barbara takes her smoked creations to an art form.

Groffs Content Farm is a farm producing and selling beef, lamb, pork, goat, eggs, broiler chickens, turkeys, and duck. Our animals are pasture-raised and finished on grass. This takes longer than feedlot grain finishing, but increases the health benefits of the meat without compromising taste or quality. Our customers can relax and enjoy a boon to their health after every succulent bite, in spite of daily reports of the problems with the “factory farming” model, from genetically modified foods to pesticides and soil loss. We welcome you to visit our farm. Besides our farm products we have an assortment of critters around just for fun You may pick up your products at various Farmers Markets or at our farm (please call in advance as we are very busy working outside). We look forward to seeing you at the Riverdale Park Farmer's Market.

Mystic Water Soap - Handmade Bath & Body Products
Days are getting longer and we’re all beginning to think about our gardens and getting impatient for the new farmers market season to start. I will be back at the Riverdale Park, Kensington, Greenbelt and Cheverly farmers markets this year, as well as some of our favorite local festivals. I’ve listed links to them, with driving directions, dates and times. There’s always good music, lots to see and do and great local artists, so please come out and enjoy the nice weather with us!

This year I’m expanding my hair care line to include red and neutral henna powder – if you’ve ever been curious about henna, stop by and we’ll chat about it. I’m discovering the benefits of using neutral henna as a conditioner that doesn’t alter your hair color. And if you’re looking for an alternative to SLS-based shampoos, try our shampoo bars: they’re scented with pure plant essential oils and contain no preservatives or sulfates. They’re especially convenient for travel. I also make three different after-shampoo herbal rinses and a hair conditioning oil with Moroccan argan oil.

Last summer I introduced a sugar scrub in cube form and this spring there will be a creamy version in a jar as well, in a variety of scents. It’s an emulsified scrub, so it forms a rich lotion as it exfoliates, and rinses off leaving your skin moisturized and glowing. And of course, I’ll have some new soap fragrances as well as old favorites!

Jamie Stachowski

Methods of preserving meats by curing and smoking, sausage making, and other crafts of butchering are common in many Eastern European cultures and Jamie Stachowski’s family is no exception. A native of Buffalo, Stachowski draws on a rich tradition in practicing this craft, also known as charcuterie.

Stachowski began his career as a chef, having apprenticed with some of the best European chefs in his youth, acquiring a classic training in techniques and flavor profiles. Since 1984, he has made his home in Washington D.C. where he has built a reputation as an inventive but classically grounded chef. Critics enjoyed his ‘brashly idiosyncratic’ ‘poetry on a plate.’

In the early 2000’s, he owned and operated Restaurant Kolumbia where he first garnered attention for ‘The Butcher Board,’ an array of handcrafted galantines, pates, cured fresh, and smoked sausages served on a butcher block. The invention, style, classicism, and deliciousness of his cooking style found equal expression in his charcuterie.

From that time, Stachowski has developed a charcuterie business patronized by chefs, wine shops, specialty groceries and now featured in several local farmer’s markets. You will love it as soon as you taste it!
